How to be healthier in the New Year when you only have a few minutes a day….
As busy moms, it’s easy to slip into an unhealthy lifestyle throughout the year, whether it’s missing workouts or turning to unhealthy vices for dealing with stress. I’ll admit, I haven’t been taking care of my health at all this year. Thanks to working a stressful job and being pregnant most of the year, all while taking care of my toddler and starting up a business, I haven’t had any time for myself. And now I’m working at home while taking care of my toddler and newborn, so it hasn’t gotten any easier. Do you want to join me in getting healthier this coming year? Let’s make some healthy New Year’s resolutions.
Below are some ideas for healthy New Year’s resolutions for busy moms. I’m going to choose one item from the list below to incorporate into my daily life, and I’m going to make a point to follow through. What are you going to choose?

Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Eating Better
1. Come up with a meal plan to make eating at home easier. Here is a meal planning workbook I am giving away (yes, for FREE!) to help you get started. 2. Meal prep on the weekends to make cooking quick and easy during the week. Sure, meal prepping takes a little extra time away from your weekends. But it can save you tons of time during the week!
3. Incorporate a fruit or vegetable into every meal and snack. It’s pretty quick and easy to add a side of produce to each meal and snack, and you’ll get extra nutrients in your diet.

Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Exercising More
4. Carve out ten minutes to fit in a workout of your choice. YouTube has tons of ten-minute workouts to choose from. I personally like HIIT (or tabata), yoga videos. Or you could look for a video that the kids would enjoy following along with — involving them in your routine is not only healthy for all of you, but it will keep them occupied while you work out. Win-win!

5. Go on a ten-minute walk every day. This one is hard in the middle of the winter (at least, where I live), but it’s another way to fit in some exercise and fresh air daily. Good for you and good for the kids.
6. Fit in exercise while performing daily tasks. As busy moms, we know how to multi-task, right?! Why not add one more thing to the mix…do squats while picking up toys, lunges while brushing your teeth, and make a few extra trips up and down the stairs whenever possible.

7. Drink more water. Replace sugary drinks with water. This is a surefire way to lose weight, and it takes no extra time out of your busy day. Also, drink a glass of water when you think you are hungry. Are you still hungry? Then go ahead and eat a healthy snack.
8. Buy healthy snacks instead of junk food. Be sure to balance carbs with some type of protein to keep your blood sugar from spiking.
9. Avoid skipping meals. You may not have much time in the mornings, I get it. But rather than skipping breakfast, eat something quick and filling to help you keep from binge eating later in the day.

10. Set your goal and take the first step, whatever that may be. Maybe it’s eliminating one cigarette each day, or maybe it’s quitting cold turkey on January 1st.

11. Take five to ten minutes a day to meditate. It could be first thing in the morning before getting out of bed or just as you’re going to sleep — or whenever you can fit a few minutes of meditation into your day.
12. Spend ten minutes alone each day (and your shower time doesn’t count!). Spend those ten minutes doing whatever it is that helps you relax, whether it’s reading, journaling, or stretching, while someone else takes care of the kids.
13. Start saying ‘no’ when necessary. If you’re tapped out and you have too many things going on, just start saying ‘no’ to the things you don’t absolutely need to do.
Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Getting More Sleep
14. Resolve to go to bed at a certain time each night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, start going to bed earlier…even if it’s just fifteen minutes earlier at first. Set a bedtime and stick with it.
15. Avoid screens for an hour or two before bedtime. Screen time can seriously disrupt the quality of sleep you’re getting so, if you’re not getting good quality sleep at night, resolve to cut yourself off from Facebook or Netflix at a certain time each night.
So, what is my resolution?
I don’t need to quit smoking since I’m not a smoker… I am already trying to drink more water because I know I’m not getting nearly enough as a breastfeeding mom… So what is my one resolution for the New Year?
Well, one of my healthy New Year’s resolutions will be to eat better. Actually, I’ve already been working on it with the help of my meal planning workbook (you can download it for free by clicking on the link!).
