My Review + Boba Baby Wrap Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s talk infant carriers for a minute. You’re reading Boba baby wrap reviews because you’re not sure if this type of carrier is a good fit for you, right?
I used the Boba wrap for both of my daughters as infants, so I thought I’d share my experience and answer some frequently asked questions.
I chose the sangria wrap, but this cloth baby carrier comes in a number of different colors.
It has come in handy during family walks, while traveling, and even around the house when I needed to move around (but baby didn’t want to be put down!).
There is a bit of a learning curve when you’re using it for the first time. So if you’re planning to wear your baby while shopping for example, you might want to put the wrap on before leaving the house.
This will help avoid any frustration when you’re trying to put it on in public. Not to mention that the ends might drag on the ground or dirty public floors while wrapping it around yourself….
Yuck!
Plus, if you pre-wrap, then once you arrive at the store, all you have to do is place baby inside and you’re set.
In this review, we’ll cover the following questions:
- What is a Boba wrap?
- What is it made from?
- How does it work?
- Is the Boba wrap safe for newborns?
- Does it work for toddlers?
- Can I nurse my baby in the Boba wrap?
- Can baby face forward?
- Is it better than a ring sling?
- What are the pros and cons?

1. What is a Boba Baby Wrap?
The Boba baby wrap is a type of stretchy, fabric baby carrier that is designed to keep babies close to their parents or caregivers. Babies love to be close to our warmth, our scent, and our heartbeat! It reminds them of their time in the womb.
This particular carrier was designed so we can carry our babies on the chest, snuggled into us. The fabric is long, and you wrap it around your body, creating a little pouch for baby to nestle into. I often found myself wearing my second baby at nap time while I worked.
She was around three or four months old at the time. The nice thing about the Boba wrap is that it has built-in head support — simply pull the fabric over the back baby’s head while she’s napping, making sure to leave her face uncovered of course.

2. What is it Made From?
This is a soft, stretchy baby carrier made entirely of fabric. There are no structured parts at all.
Boba wraps are made with a machine washable blend of 95% Cotton / 5% Spandex. Cotton provides breathability, while spandex helps it stretch just enough (but not so much that it stretches out on you).
Personally, I avoid wearing it outdoors on really hot days.
I made the mistake of walking a couple blocks to get an ice cream cone once when my firstborn daughter was just a couple of weeks old, which was naturally during the hottest part of the summer.
It worked great for walks on cooler days, though!
3. How Does it Work?
Open up the wrap completely and look for the Boba logo in the center. Hold it with the logo facing outward over your navel.
Cross the two ends behind your back. Pull each side up and over your shoulders, keeping the fabric stretched. Make sure it doesn’t get twisted!
Hold both pieces in one hand, tucking them under the section with the logo on it. Make sure to keep a little tension while doing so.
Pull downward, and the logo should rise to your chest. Your wrap should now fit snugly.
Cross the ends, bringing them around waist behind your back. Make sure they cross each other high on your chest, across the sternum. No need to leave space for baby, since the wrap will stretch.
Cross the wrap behind your back again. If there is enough fabric, bring it back to the front. Tie a double knot, either in the back, front, or on your hip.
Placing Baby Inside
Hold baby on your shoulder, keeping her legs in the ‘M’ position.
Take the inside panel (closest to your body) and wrap it around your body.
Pull the other panel around baby and reach into the sides, adjusting her legs.
Pull the front panel up over baby’s body, making sure her head is close enough to kiss.
Her nose should be parallel to the ground, chin up, and airway should be clear.
You can pull one of the panels over the back of baby’s head for support while she’s sleeping.
4. Is the Boba Wrap Safe for Newborns?
To quote Boba.com:
“The Boba Wrap is intended for babies from birth* to 35 lbs. Yep, that’s right! You can start wearing your little one right away. In fact, we’re big advocates for skin to skin kangaroo care.”
*For premature babies, please consult with your health care provider and/or a baby wearing educator on safe positioning.
5. Does it Work for Toddlers?
Yes, you can use the Boba baby wrap for toddlers up to 35 lbs. (Toddlers like to be snuggled, too!)
The type of carrier you use for toddlers depends on your personal preference. Some like fabric wraps for both infants and toddlers, while others find it a little more difficult to wear a bigger child in a wrap.
As for me, I like to use my wrap for the newborn and infant stages, then move on to a more structured carrier as baby gets bigger.

6. Can I Nurse My Baby in the Boba Wrap?
Yes, you can! Full disclosure: I have never been able to master nursing my babies in a wrap or carrier of any kind.
To be honest, I’ve never really needed to learn. But as many women have proven, it is certainly possible.
Here’s an instructional video to help you learn how to nurse baby while wearing a wrap.

How to Nurse Your Baby in the Boba Wrap
Consider wearing a tank top under a looser lower-necked shirt for more discretion.
Open the fabric panels a bit making sure your baby is still well supported.
Scootch him down a little in his seat by pressing on his legs at the hips. You should still be tummy to tummy.
Pull the shoulder strap over to the side, and reach in to pull up your shirt and lower the tank top if you’re wearing one.
Lift your breast for baby to latch either by reaching inside or from the outside under the panel.
Lift the label piece back up to his neck.
7. Can Baby Face Forward?
The Boba baby wrap was not designed for carrying your child forward facing.
To be honest, I don’t recommend wearing babies forward facing in any carrier. This unnatural position causes pressure on the child’s pelvis and spine, and it can cause arching of the back.
I can only imagine how uncomfortable that must be! Not to mention how uncomfortable it can get for the wearer, thanks to your center of gravity being thrown off.
The most ergonomic and comfortable position is to carry your baby facing into your chest.

8. Is it Better Than a Ring Sling?
A ring sling is also made of fabric, but it is worn over one shoulder and has an adjustable ring.
When I was researching the best baby carrier for my needs, I determined that a wrap is overall a better choice than a sling.
While a sling might be handy for someone who is going to use it multiple times a day, it does pose a higher risk of suffocation to babies, particularly those who are under four months.
Because babies have weak neck muscles and little head control, if their face presses against your body or the fabric, they might not be able to breathe.
Plus, it can keep baby’s body curled into a “C” shape, which makes it hard to breathe.
9. What are the Pros and Cons?
I’ll break it down for ya.
Pros
- Fits all different body types
- Works from newborn to toddler
- Ergonomic baby carrier
- Accommodates breastfeeding
- Machine washable
- Super budget-friendly
- High quality and durable
Cons
- Slight learning curve to tying
- Can get a little warm
- Limited carrying options
Concluding My Boba Baby Wrap Review
Baby wearing is an awesome way for parents and caregivers to bond with babies.
If it seems intimidating, don’t worry — once you’ve practiced a few times, it really isn’t difficult. If you find that it feels too tight or too loose after placing baby inside, try again.
After a while, it becomes second nature!
When my girls were babies, I found myself walking around the house ALL THE TIME, and my arms and back suffered. But when I carried them in the wrap, they felt secure while giving my arms a break.
